Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):
Research assistants will work closely with faculty member on French diplomacy and statecraft in relation to the U.S. and Louisiana. This project thematically focuses on the foreign policy of France, with attention to:
The promotion of the French language and heritage as a key cultural dimension of its international relations
Main issues and debates about France and French in the context of the International Organization of la Francophonie
France's bilateral relations with the U.S.
Rising anxieties in France about U.S. influence in spheres of culture and politics, both internationally and in France itself
France's diplomatic relations with the state of Louisiana
Diplomacy as a politics of statecraft, with both outward- and inward-facing aspects
Activities may include:
Conduct bibliographic research for scholarly works and popular press journalism
Compile a bibliography, including some annotations
Compose lists of potential interviewees in the French public and nonprofit sectors, including biographical details about diplomats, elected officials, etc.
Create a chronology of significant events in France/U.S.-Louisiana relations since 1960, particularly France's support for French language education in Louisiana
Scan French archival sites for possible records relevant to the project
Contact public agencies in the U.S. and France with inquiries about interviews and pertinent documents
Read and compose brief summaries of a small subset of significant texts
French language skills (reading proficiency) preferred though not required.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
